Who can File a Complaint?
Anyone is entitled to file a complaint involving the actions of any Sacramento
County Sheriff’s Office employee. A complaint may be made by the person involved,
by a friend, family member, or other third party who has knowledge of the
incident. A complaint can also be made anonymously.
Complaint Process
The Internal Affairs Bureau of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office
will review, process, and investigate all citizen complaints related to the
actions of Sheriff’s Office personnel. When a complaint is received by the
Inspector General, it is reviewed and forwarded to the Internal Affairs Bureau.
The Inspector General actively monitors complaints of misconduct to ensure they
are conducted fairly and thoroughly. Once the investigation is completed, it
must then be reviewed by the employee’s chain of command to determine the
appropriate findings and actions. Once that is done, you will receive written notification
from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office as to the outcome.
